The KURA story
I absolutely love this industry.
It’s glamorous, challenging, exciting. Dynamic, inspiring and unpredictable; it can also be unforgiving. It offers fabulous career opportunities, every day is different; travelling the world, using ground-breaking technology. A lifetime of unbelievable experiences.
For many, a career as an airline pilot is the ultimate dream.
I consider myself lucky to have had the opportunity to work with hundreds of trainee pilots and numerous airlines over the past 21 years. I have had the privilege of sharing both the highs and the lows and now want to help break down some of the barriers that aspiring pilots face in order to enter this fantastic career – while ensuring airline standards and expectations are always met.
There are several ways to become an airline pilot but aircraft, simulators and experienced instructors are costly and rarely is there the guarantee of a job at the end. A number of integrated training programmes have been developed over the past few years to include professional development training and employment support. Although these programmes are excellent they tend to be expensive and not everyone has the financial means to access them. Pilots training via the modular route have found it hard at times, if not impossible, to access these sorts of services putting them at a perceived disadvantage when trying to find a job.
KURA was founded in 2014 to create new training and employment opportunities for aspiring pilots to access the profession.
So how do we do this? Designed to develop the skills and knowledge of a newly qualified commercial pilot to achieve the highest possible professional standards expected of a new First Officer; BESTPILOT™ offers the best from each training route. The competency based philosophy of an MPL; the ability to prioritise flexibility and cost through modular training and the professional development benefits of an integrated course including employment support and a performance guarantee.
It was important to me that BESTPILOT™ therefore represented industry best practice and I am delighted to have achieved industry recognition in a very short space of time.
Whilst BESTPILOT™ was designed specifically to create new opportunities for modular trained pilots; the robustness and integrity of the training has benefited integrated pilots too, many of whom graduated several years ago. BESTPILOT™, in only 5 training weeks, has reset the ‘currency clock’ of pilots who were 2 to 11 years out of training!
I have honestly met some of the very best people of my life while working in aviation and I am proud that a number are part of the KURA team. Others are also volunteer members of our Advisory Board. KURA is not a ‘one size fits all’ organization. We believe very much in tailored solutions for the individual and airline with one thing in common – the content of our programmes and the manner in which we deliver our training must be as aligned to industry best practice as it can be.
The breadth of talent and experience we offer, therefore, is extraordinary and our ethos is always to inspire and support. We are absolutely dedicated to seeing those who join our programmes progress into airline employment.
Don’t take my word for it though, read some of our Success Stories – they say it all.
