I began training in January 2010 on an integrated course and graduated the following year.
There weren’t many airline jobs available at that time, so I got a job with a pilot supplies company, Airplan Flight Equipment (AFE) and flew in my spare time in order to stay current.
With AFE, I attended several aviation exhibitions, including the 2014 Leeds Professional Flight Training Exhibition (now Pilot Careers Live) where I met some of the KURA team. Impressed by what they offered, I joined the BESTPILOT programme and really enjoyed the whole process.
We learned a lot about the non-technical skills expected of a pilot and Crew Resource Management (CRM). After the simulator phase in Utrecht, I came back to some good news about an airline assessment date with BA CityFlyer. I was really pleased to be successful and I began my new career as a First Officer in July 2015. It’s everything I hoped it would and I’m absolutely loving it.
If you find yourself in a similar position as I was, persevere. It’s very easy to get to a place where you’re just wondering if it’s ever going to happen. But staying the industry helped and if you meet the right person or the right team, that could change everything for you. I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t be where I am today without KURA.
