I was a qualified engineering teacher, but it was 2008 and the Irish economy had really been hit hard.
I was broke and unemployed and began looking for a new career. My parents bought me a voucher for my local flight school and the rest is history!
I found an airport job and started my PPL as a modular student by doing a few hours whenever I could afford to do so. Once I’d achieved my CPL/IR I joined the BESTPILOT programme at Kura for my MCC and JOC.
The benefits of training at Kura are many. The course really helped me understand what airlines are looking for in new First Officers – the gap that exists between the CPL/ IR and what the airlines are looking for is huge! Also, the assessment and interview preparation I received was crucial. Interviews are a skill that need to practised and the Kura trainers helped to understand how to be successful.
It was great to be given an opportunity at an airline assessment, but I still had to pass it. I’m so grateful for the extensive interview preparation I was given – and it was a happy day when I was offered a place in the BA Cityflyer hold pool!
I cannot wait to represent my airline. It means everything to have got to this point. I am going to be able to say that I love my day job – and not a lot of people can say that!
