The day my parents moved towards a town near an airport was the first time I actually saw an aeroplane in real life. I was 9 years old and will never forget how amazed I was at seeing this 757 from Dutchbird flying over my house. That was the day I knew aviation was going to be my future.
After graduating high-school I never thought becoming a pilot would be possible in my situation. So I decided to start training as an aircraft maintenance engineer. While doing an internship at KLM I found myself at a flightdeck preparing a flight and realised that it’s either now or never. So after carefully selecting my ATO, I ended up doing my flight training in Maastricht, Vasteras and Utrecht. Graduating was one of the happiest moments in my life but soon I realised that the most difficult step was yet to come.
After applying for 1.5 years, I came to the conclusion that without help and accompaniment it would be very hard, almost impossible to find my first job. For me Kura came at the right moment while I was close to unwillingly giving my dream up. After hearing about Kura and their successes I decided to have a look at the office to see what it was all about. My gut-feeling was that this would be a really good investment so I started the BESTPILOT course. Soon I recognised how different Kura approaches the situation, and how Kura’s personalised method was perfect for me.
During the course I learned that the industry has a very high standard and my social and interview skills could use a boost. The professional and most of all, the personal care at Kura was immense. They helped me believe again and gave me a lot of confidence as all people working at Kura have a long history in aviation and training. The interview preparation was excellent and well-tailored and I learned to present myself and utilise all the non-tech skills that airlines look for. Another part that I really enjoyed was meeting all new and dedicated people who really want you to get the best out of yourself. Kura is not the kind of company that trains you and that’s it, it is more like a friend that wants the best for you will do everything to make it happen for you.
After a total of 5 years of hard work, dedication, perseverance and training by the best, I received a relieving phone call from DHL Aviation that they want to hire me as a First Officer on the 757. Even during the wait for the final call the people working at Kura showed a lot of interest and shared the joy with me when I heard the good news! Kura, and especially Isobel will always have a special place in my heart as I they helped me overcome this last and most difficult step in fullfilling my dream!
