When I was young, being a pilot was one of my dream jobs and I decided to start training for it seriously after finishing university.
I chose an integrated school, because at the time it seemed the quickest and most likely way to an airline job, but three years after graduating I had not been successful in finding an airline job.
I had met Isobel Hall, who is an enthusiastic, motivated and genuine person, during my initial pilot training and so I got in touch with her again to see if Kura could help me on my way to an airline job.
I found that there is an amazing atmosphere at Kura and the whole team have a great knowledge of the aviation industry. After three years of struggling to get a job it was hard to stay motivated, but the Kura atmosphere changed that completely.
The training I received through the BESTPILOT programme prepared me really well for an airline interview. The trainers taught me skills I could use and a way of thinking about myself and how to approach airline questions and assessments. They don’t teach you tricks, but they develop your knowledge and how to make yourself stand out from others.
I received my airline job offer from Flybe at the end of August 2015. After not having had an interview in four years, I finally landed the job!
Flying is of course one of the things I will love the most about my new job, but flying itself is only a minor part of what you do. Being a pilot involves a wide range of skills and you can never become complacent. You will always have to keep your knowledge up to scratch and there is always a skill you can improve.
It’s a very challenging, but also a very rewarding job in a dynamic environment. I am currently completing my type training, but I am really looking forward to the teamwork with the crew members and the responsibility of all those people in the cabin. I will be doing something that not a lot of people can do and even fewer people actually do for a living!
Kura boosted my confidence and provided me with knowledge and great opportunities through their network. I can say honestly say that without Kura I wouldn’t have a job as a First Officer.
