After finishing my integrated flight training in July 2013 I concentrated all of my efforts on trying to find my first pilot job. This may sound easy perhaps to someone from outside the industry, but for me it was hard and I did not find one.
Instead I started working as an IT consultant, gaining good work experience in other areas. I could not abandon my ambition to be a commercial airline pilot though and so continued to stay in touch with people from the aviation industry. I heard about Kura Aviation from a school colleague, he told me about the people that worked there, and that motivated me to take a leap of faith and do the BESTPILOT program.
The BESTPILOT program is specially designed to bridge that gap between airline employment and flight school. The programme is fun with interactive sessions on topics such as a day in the life of a pilot, leadership, teamwork, working with the cabin crew, the duties of a first officer and all of the topics are facilitated by pilots who share their many aviation stories.
Kura’s BESTPILOT program really helped me broaden my understanding of the industry and my views of the role of a pilot. They taught me exactly what I had been missing when originally looking for that first pilot job. I went to Kura Aviation in June 2015, and not only did I learn a lot, it re-ignited my passion for aviation. Hearing stories from people from the industry, doing group exercises and presenting about aviation motivated me even more to succeed in finding my first airline job. It took me 2.5 years to find my dream job, but thanks to Kura I can now proudly say that I’m a first officer (on the Flybe Q-400!), and couldn’t be happier!
